Safer Space Principles

All activities and events organized by Pohjois-Savon Seta ry are based on the Safer Space Principles.

Free of discrimination

Everyone is welcome as they are. We do not accept homophobia, transphobia, sexism or racism, nor any form of discrimination or harassment based on disability, health, body features or any human characteristic.

Confidentiality

Our conversations are confidential. We do not share the experiences we hear in the discussions or the people we meet with anyone who is not participating in the gathering. You may not take or publish pictures, videos or audio recordings of the discussions or participants. We do not touch another without permission.

The right to self-definition and non-definition

We respect everyone’s right to define themselves or not to define themselves. This applies to sexual orientation and gender identity as well as everything else. Everyone has the right to choose the name or nickname they want to be called by, as well as the pronouns they use. We avoid generalizing and acting on the basis of our assumptions.

Benevolence

We are constructive, understanding and fair, so that the group dares to speak naturally and openly. If someone uses words that are considered offensive, we will kindly tell you a better term or expression. If we make a mistake, we apologize and move on.

Respect

Everyone has the right to their own opinion and the obligation to respect the opinions of others. However, we do not accept discriminatory speech. Everyone gets to participate in the conversation in their own way; it is also allowed to be silent.

Taking the floor

Nothing is self-evident! You can always ask for clarification or a reminder about the things discussed or the instructions.

Giving space

We listen to each other’s speeches and try to avoid interrupting or talking over each other.

Not saying hello

Not everyone tells elsewhere that they participate in the activities of Pohjois-Savon Seta. We do not show that we know each other outside of this activity, if it is not agreed in advance. You can give permission to others to greet yourself, but they don’t have to give you the same permission.
